Pine and Wire Wreath

DIY Pine and Wire Christmas Wreath

Interesting elements seem to catch my attention and sometimes I feel forced to stop what I’m doing and just have some fun to see what I can create.

This happened a few days ago when I was cleaning up wire bundles and noticed several strands of unbarbed wire lying on the ground.

I decided our entry gate needed a festive Christmas wreath.

The sun was shining, country music was playing and I simply just wanted to have some fun.

Get Started with Wire

There was probably about nine strands of wire that were anywhere from 5  to 10 ft. long.  I started with the long strands first to form a nice circular motion.

For this project you will need heavy duty unbarbed wire,  wire cutters, strong needle nose pliers and small gauge wire.

The small wire is used to hold the wreath shape in the beginning stages of the shaping process.

There is really no technique; the goal is to make a solid base by securing with smaller gauge wire.

Once the wreath is tight you may want to add some twists and turns for interest.

Adding Pine and Ribbon

I had a chicken helper for adding the natural elements.

The pine came from a tree in our front yard, I found one with cones still attached and it was perfect.

Placing the pine was fun because I just weaved the branches through the wire.

The ribbon was something I had left over from last season and it was in 4 different strips.

I attached the ribbon the same as the pine weaving it through the wire making sure it was secure so it wouldn’t fly away and before I knew it the wreath was complete.

This was a fun project, all you really need is a strong hand because this wire is bulky but it sure does make a neat wreath base.

Creating something different is always fun and brings some uniqueness to your space.  This wreath is just perfect for farm life.
